Cairns Corporate Challenge 2016
2016 Kokoda Charity Trek
Papua New Guinea is a nation just off our coast, yet its facing some of the most significant health challenges in the world. In a nation where 43% of the population is under the age of 15, one in four Papua New Guinean children will not live to celebrate their 40th birthday. Delivering basic services in Papua New Guinea poses enormous health challenges with 84% of the population living in remote, rural areas. These communities are scattered over rugged terrain, complex river systems, vast expanses of ocean, and an extensive coastline.
YWAM's Medical Ship, the MV YWAM PNG, helps overcome the challenges by accessing isolated communities with medical specialists, supplies, health services, and mentoring and support for rural health workers.
The MV YWAM PNG boasts a shallow draft, capacity to accommodate over 100 volunteers and an onboard dentistry clinic, day procedure unit, clinical laboratory and smaller boats that can be launched from the ship to extremely remote communities.
If you have ever considered walking the Kokoda Track then this is the perfect opportunity to do it! The Cairns Community Ambassador for YWAM Medical Ships, Yolonde Entsch, invites you to join her on the 2016 Cairns Corporate Challenge in support of YWAM Medical Ships. Every person joining the Cairns Corporate Challenge will be asked to raise funds to either:
Support a young Cairns person to become a Youth Ambassador, volunteering on the Australian YWAM Medical Ship to PNG, and participating in other community service projects.
Purchase equipment needed for the MV YWAM PNG's new onboard clinical laboratory
